Real wages can’t keep up with rising costs. Our economy is drifting into recession, as gas and energy prices soar and health care costs continue to skyrocket. While Kentucky’s working middle class struggles to make ends meet, career politicians like Mitch McConnell remain mired in partisan politics, impotent to reverse our nation’s economic decline.
Small businesses drive our economy. They are the greatest source of job creation and innovation. Without relief to help small businesses and a real solution to runaway health care costs, Kentucky’s economy will suffer–leading to more job losses and more home foreclosures. Kentucky needs change.
Greg Fischer – a Democrat, born and raised in Kentucky – is a dedicated father, devoted family man, and strong community leader. At 25, Greg co-invented the ice/beverage dispenser in a local garage. From those humble beginnings Greg built it into a worldwide company, SerVend, that helped create thousands of American jobs with good benefits. One of Greg’s companies, Vogt Ice, is a Steelworkers Union Local 1693 signatory.
Greg supports raising the minimum wage and boosting the earned income tax credit to help Kentucky’s hard working families. Greg will refocus Bush’s tax cuts for the rich towards helping middle class Americans who are being hit by the Alternative Minimum Tax. Greg will work to put the American dream of homeownership ahead of predatory sub-prime lenders. In the Senate, he will oppose unfair trade agreements that ship American jobs overseas, and eliminate tax incentives for corporations that move offshore to avoid paying their share of taxes.
