Seven Democrats are seeking the opportunity to run against Republican U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell this fall, but just two of the candidates have a legitimate shot at winning their party's nomination in the May 20 primary.
Greg Fischer and Bruce Lunsford have much in common. Both are Louisville businessmen capable of self-financing part of their campaigns.
Both have lived the American dream in achieving their wealth but fear that opportunity is slipping away from those who aspire to do so now, thanks to the policies of President Bush's administration. Both view McConnell, the Senate minority leader, as one of Bush's chief enablers.

We all know that a Derby “long shot” is a horse that isn’t favored to win, but would apt to pay off nicely if he were to surprise the odds makers.
U.S. Senatorial candidate Greg Fischer is the decided underdog — a long shot, then — in the upcoming Democratic Party primary. While new to the state spotlight, Kentuckians are learning fast that Fischer, 50, is not just a capable and astute business leader who earns his way and creates new jobs through innovation and know-how, not on the backs of others; is so much more than just a party ideologue; and is a man of integrity and sincerity who has tirelessly given of himself for civic improvement and public good.

Greg has a sincerity and desire unlike anything I have seen in a great while. He's in the race for all the right reasons: to better Kentucky, to better our nation and to brighten what has now become a dim outlook for our future

He is a squeaky clean entrepreneur who helped transform a bankrupt family company into a global leader that sold for $72.9 million. He is supported by popular Democrats like Dave Armstrong, David Karem and Romano Mazzoli, and prominent Louisville families, including the Browns and Greenebaums.
